A day at the spa – Lifehouse Hotel & Spa Review

I don’t know about you, but I really struggle in the winter months, especially immediately after Christmas. Summer feels ages away, the climax of Christmas has come and gone, and the evenings get dark quickly and the days feel cold. I am definitely not a Winter person!

My birthday is in February, so with the above in mind I always like to do something special to celebrate, to lift my spirits and make me feel good. This year I decided to have a day at the spa on my birthday; a day of relaxing and pampering and a digital detox.

Lifehouse Hotel & Spa is just a minute drive from where I live, and is situated in Thorpe-Le-Soken, Essex. It is a modern spa offering day and stay breaks, complete with a menu packed full of treatments to add to your relaxing day.

We arrived at 8.45am to check in for our day, and upon arrival at reception we were given an itinerary for the day, our locker keys and a pair of complimentary slippers to use for the day and take home. After this we were given a tour of the facilities. Within 10 minutes I was in the changing rooms collecting my robes and slippers and getting changed and excited for my relaxing day ahead.

We headed to the restaurant for breakfast and indulged in a buffet of hot food and cold fruits and yoghurt. After breakfast we headed into the spa area and spent the next few hours relaxing. The spa area consists of a large pool, a jacuzzi, a steam room, a sauna, a salt inhalation room and scented rainforest showers. The jacuzzi was my favourite area of the spa, you can’t beat a relaxing 15 minutes in hot bubbling water!

The decor is lovely and very modern, and I really liked that the spa area wasn’t busy. I was truly able to relax and enjoy the facilities at my leisure. (I even fell asleep a few times in the afternoon!)

At 12pm we headed back to reception to check in for our treatments. Once checked in we headed upstairs to the treatment waiting area, and after 5 minutes a lovely therapist named Holly came and collected me for my 55 min facial. Holly asked me about my skin type and any concerns I had, before choosing to focus my facial on hydration. I sat back and relaxed whilst enjoying the most wonderful Clarins facial; lotions, scrubs, masks and a wonderful massage. I can absolutely say it was the best facial I have ever had, and Holly very kindly gifted my some eye serum after the treatment. I felt so relaxed afterwards and we headed down to lunch feeling very chilled.

Lunch was a 3 course buffet, starting with soup, followed by a delicious selection of hot foods and cold salads, and finishing with a selection of cakes. This was served with a glass of prosecco, wonderful! After lunch we headed back into the spa area to continue enjoying the facilities for the remaining hours of our day, before checking out at 6pm.

I had such a wonderful and relaxing day at Lifehouse and would love to visit again in the summer so we can head outside and enjoy the gardens, which I hear are wonderful.

(Apologies for the lack of actual photos – I kept my phone stashed away in my locker all day in order to have a truly turned off day! All photos of the spa area are from the Lifehouse website.)
