Happy New Year one and all!
Another year gone, doesn’t time fly so fast? I feel this is even truer the older you get! January always feel like the perfect time to reflect, recharge and refocus, so with that in mind, I am sharing with you my goals for the month ahead.
Read 3 books
I go through phases with reading. Sometimes I will read 2 or 3 books in a row, then go for months without reading. But when I do take the time to read, I get so much enjoyment from it. In a quest to do more of what makes me happy, reading is going to be a priority for me this year, so I will be reading 3 books this month instead of wasting away precious hours of my evenings on social media. I have bought the following books for January to read on my kindle – Victoria, The Outrun and Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear.
Take my own lunch to work
This is a big one for me – I never take lunch to work so always end up buying it on my lunch break. This ends up with me spending more money that I need to on food, as I could easily make up my lunches from my weekly food shop. The reason I don’t is mainly due to laziness and not being properly organised of an evening to get my shit together for the next day. And I just can’t get out of bed early enough to make it in the mornings – I have my morning routine down to the minute so I can get up at the last possible time (I love my bed so much)
This month I will make the effort to spend some time in the evening preparing my food for the next day. I will do this 3 times a week rather than 5 as this is a sensible starting point for me, something that I see being achievable.
Tidy as I go
I am not the best at tidying up as I go, so by the time the weekend comes I have a messy bedroom/living room that I really cannot be bothered to face in my free time. I am going to make an effort to tidy as I go, and put stuff back in its place once I have used it. My boyfriend will tell you that I am so bad at leaving my stuff all over the flat in random places. Luckily he is chilled out about these things so it doesn’t get to him – but it does get to me. I hate coming home to the flat and walking into untidy surroundings.
Write 4 new posts
Like reading, I go through phases with my blog – one month I go all out and end up on a writing mission, other times I can go for weeks without posting. During January I will add a new post to the blog every week, and continue to post regularly throughout the coming year.
Cook 3 new dishes
I don’t know about you, but I find myself gravitating to the same meals week to week. We all have our favourite dishes don’t we? But how nice is it when you try something new for the first time and completely fall in love with it? That feeling is even better when you have made it yourself at home. The sense of achievement is wonderful. I have no end of cookbooks at home, so this month I will be selecting 3 recipes and making them at home for me and my partner. The first dish on the menu this week is mini Beef Wellington’s with roasted potatoes and vegetables. Yum!
Put away 10% of my earnings
I have had a difficult few years financially so have not be able to save much at all, but I am now in a position to start saving each month. My goal is to put away 10% of my salary each month that will solely be for saving for a home. I am very conscious of the fact that I am in my 30s and feel so far away from owning my own property, but I am not helping myself by doing nothing about it. Previously I was telling myself that the goal of owning my own home was so out of reach that it wasn’t worth focusing on. But owning a house to call my own is one of my priorities, so I need to start taking action to work towards it. I will put away 10% of my wages this month into a savings account, and set up a standing order to put the same amount away each month. It will mean cutting back on some things, but I am determined!
What are your January goals?
